Requests for page protection
Shortcuts:
WP:RFPP
WP:RFP
WP:RPP

This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 4 header at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header.
(for example, for an article use: ===={{la|ARTICLE}}====)
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

Semi-protection A large amount of vandalism on this high-profile political article which gets thousands of hits a day (almost 500,000 so far this month) - editors are trying to keep up, but the vandals are winning. Tvoz/talk 03:20, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Temporary full protection dispute, Multiple editors, some IPs, some real ones. Consensus is unlikely to be reached with the amount of warring going on right now, so a temporary full-protect is requested.. 00:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Skiet (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

6-month create protection (and speedy deletion of current recreated material). Please see logs of Shri Krishan Institute of Engineering & Technology and Kurukshetra University for reasons. Protect Talk page too, please. 00:28, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Declined since I've decided to nip this crap in the bud and block the user responsible for unrepentant copyright violations. If it shows up again at Skiet or at Kurukshetra University (India) I'll prot, but not before. I *did* delete both pages, however, as WP:CSD#G12 or G7. - 03:01, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Tyrannosaurus (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection: Today's Dinosaur Comics (will be at this address tomorrow) depicts main character Tyrannosaurus as temporarily dating Wikipedia, and we've already had several references to this in the article. A few days at most should quiet it down (something similar happened to Tyrannosaurus because of a webcomic in the past). J. Spencer (talk) 23:50, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

HAƓƓER? (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite create-protection, Another very possible variation of HAGGER?.-- IRP 20:10, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Declined, According to the protection policy creation protection may not be used as a pre-emptive measure, but only in response to actual events. Instead, the titleblacklist should be used (cf. [1] and protection policy). — // discussion 20:15, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
While I was in favour of fulfilling such requests for protection, since there isn't really much harm in doing so, I think you're starting to be wasting administrators' time with all these requests. Can you please do something more productive than spending time looking for HAGGER variations? Maybe chip in on the talk page of the Title blacklist? Majorly talk 20:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, please add this to the title blacklist. -- IRP 20:16, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
In future, please do not request anymore variations of HAGGER pages here, unless they have actually been created/deleted. Please use the Title blacklist talk page. Thanks, Majorly talk 20:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, how come this request wasn't declined? -- IRP 20:24, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
That is besides the point. It's OK protecting now and again. But you're here very regularly it seems, requesting protection for pages that don't necessarily need it. I expect it's becoming tiresome for admins, who don't have to protect such pages, unless the page has been used for vandalism. This page is the wrong location for such requests; the admin who protected the page maybe did so as a one off. How many of your other requests have been declined? Please read the protection policy - while there are some admins who will IAR and protect anyway, it doesn't mean you are free to come here and request for every variation of HAGGER that's going. Majorly talk 20:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Well, I must say I really do appreciate the useful information. I will have to take it into consideration. -- IRP 20:32, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Beyond Protocol (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

I was still not given a clear answer on this page. The page represents a game which belongs to a rare genre, and has many features not found in others of its kind, in addition to growing in popularity. I have a page already created for it, User:MMORTSLover/Beyond_Protocol. If changes are necessary, let me know. I have already asked the protecting admin, which is on a "short" wiki break but has not contributed since July. Thanks. MMORTSLover (talk) 15:43, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Comment: I think CSD A7 still applies here and the page shouldn't be unprotected, but would like to hear what other admins think on this one. Cirt (talk) 17:43, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I tend to agree, although perhaps we should create it and take it directly to AfD for community discussion...? | 17:44, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
I think AfD is not needed. The page is nicely written, but it does not even assert notability and all sources are primary. It will probably A7'ed on sight or as a result of an AfD. Regards SoWhy 17:51, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

  • Semi-protect for one week. Previously requested a week-long semi-protection, but only received two days' semi-protection. Since the expiration, IP vandalism has continued. — (talkcontrib) 17:18, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Really, there has been only one IP editor who has made blatant vandalism edits. There have been several since the protection expiration who have made good-faith contributions. | 17:28, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
